They are stunning hardcovers, with sprayed edges and dust jacket illustrations by the very talented @helena.illustrated. I have it on good authority that Kid 2, a book connoisseur, has immediately nabbed the set for her own enjoyment.

    There are so many things to be grateful for this year, health, family and friends. I guess the one thing I am really grateful for is a job.   20. I’m thankful that, for today, my beloved pup who was diagnosed with a brain tumor 2 weeks ago is still with me.

  22. I’m thankful for modern therapy! My kindergartener spent the year before kindergarten in therapy for extreme anxiety. She went from no friends and completely alone in PreK to a happy little kindergartener with a group a friends she adores. She even spoke at an awards ceremony in front of the whole school!

  25. I am thankful that my father’s health has returned to full vigor (for a man of 83) after a year of serious challenges.

  30. I’m grateful for my friends. We started a discord group chat five years ago where we can hang together in all our slightly unhinged glory despite living all over the place and it has helped keep me sane through pandemics, life, and politics. They’re the best, and I love them dearly.

  54. I’m thankful for modern medicine (even as absurdly expensive as it is in the US). It discovered my wife’s breast cancer last spring, and even though we’re now about to start radiation treatments, the expectation is that she will be completely cancer-free by Christmas. Then with on-going hormone suppression therapy, her chances of recurrence should be down to a comfortable 2-3%. She and I look forward to many years of reading we can get from HA.

    I am thankful my older son has decided to reenter the world, after a few years of social hibernation/withdrawal.

  192. This is going to sound odd but I’m grateful I notice now all the ways my hearing loss has effected and continues to affect me. I couldn’t figured out why on earth in grade school people’s most common insult was “stuck up B”. I definitely didn’t think I was better than anybody, my self esteem was a smoking hole in the ground. I don’t “sound” deaf bc my voice exists in the narrow stretch I can hear. And back then they didn’t have the tech to help my kind of loss. So people thought I was just ignoring them on purpose. Even now as a teacher, I consistently get marked down by admin for my classroom management bc my room is “too loud”. It’s tiresome. But now I see it and I don’t always internalize it as me being bad. No, I’m just deaf and that’s not a moral failing.

We had to say goodbye to our fur baby, Max, 4 weeks ago and even though I cry every day, I’m thankful for the tears because it is a testimony of how much love he brought into our lives. 12 years was not long enough for me but I wouldn’t trade those years for anything. He brought me joy through some of the toughest times in my life.

Everyday has been a different struggle though it helps to have loved books to return to again and again. So thank you!

  272. I’m grateful for my cousin, her husband, my mother, my mother’s friend, and my sister who have walked with me during my little dog’s cancer journey. He died last Sunday. I am heartbroken. But they were with him and supported him, giving him so much love and helping me give him that love as well. I am so lucky to have known and loved him, and to have these wonderful people in my life who also loved him.

  297. In February, I will have been in my job for 30 years. As an assistant children’s librarian, I am thankful for having a community that, while not always supportive, is rarely outright combative towards their libraries (as is happening elsewhere in our country.)

    I am also thankful for the non-worsening (is that a word? It is now.) health of myself, my dog, and my family. Our health isn’t good, but it’s not getting worse at this moment.

  298. I’m thankful for my family, friends, my job (22 years in same job – yay steady employment in a good work environment!), a place to live, good food, and especially good books (especially audio books when I can’t just sit a spell and read visually).

    I’m thankful that I get to see extended family in 2026 (lots of cousins, their kids, and my aunts and uncles on 1 side of the family that’s spread out over many states) and I was able to successfully book my flight and car rentals last night. Whew! I’m looking forward to that time together with everyone and thankful to the family members who are organizing our family reunion. It’s a LOT of work and time spent planning (years in advance to reserve our reunion spot).

  349. I’m thankful for my older sister. When I admitted to having a rough day this week when my unwell senior dog refused to eat, she left work earlier to arrive at my place, coffee, sandwiches, and special calorie dense doggy paste in hand. Love her.

  350. In this time, I am thankful I have my health, my job, a roof over my head and food on my table. I have enough that I can give to my local food bank and donate to the Humane Society.

  353. My hubby was admitted to the hospital on September 29 with an irregular heartbeat. He was scheduled for an ablation on October 1st, but around 5am that day, he went into vfib, coded and after 29 minutes of shocks and compressions they brought him back. He was heavily sedated in CCU for 6 days and now has an ICD which is an implanted defibrillator and pacemaker.

    They were going to call it at 20 minutes, but the doctor said to keep going. A nurse noticed that his meds were going through small veins which were inefficient and demanded they put in a central line, after which he started doing better. The long period of cardiac arrest didn’t cause any brain damage – his functions are all good. It’s almost like it never happened.

    This is the most thankful I’ve ever been at any time in my life. Overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who helped get him home and healing.

    Be well, everyone. And if you ever feel something’s not quite right, don’t be embarrassed to go to the ER and get checked out. Happy Thanksgiving!

He’s quite liking Bear. Wait until he reads about (ehem) “Buttercup.” He’s extremely allergic to cats and avoids them at all costs, but he might make an exception to this kitty. 🙂

  587. Most recently- a working car. I’ve been grounded on and off due to a faulty tire. I didn’t realize how bad it was to not be able to just up and go, to cancel family plans, to have to coordinate pickups and drop offs. My car is fully fixed not and I appreciate it

    Second thing- my children’s health. Last year, this time of year, was an absolute nightmare. The whole family would get sick one after another. My kid’s classroom was 3/4 full for an entire season. We couldn’t meet up with any siblings because either my kids or their kids were sick. I had a newborn baby and it was incredibly stressful. This year- we’re good. Fingers crossed 🤞 and hand sanitizer immediately on hand.

Last year, she had a tumor in September and had just finished radiation treatment at Thanksgiving. This year she’s doing much better and we’ve moved to a much better place for her!

I am grateful for our decent immune systems and the health of my family in general.

  1527. Woke up with a migraine at 4am and took all of my meds for it. No longer in pain, but now I’m too zonked out to do anything but read on my phone. So I’m thankful to have all of your books on my phone to pick something I like to reread without minding that I’m likely to doze off again in the middle.

  1533. I am grateful for my health. 2019-2021 were really rough with chronic conditions made far worse, resulting in my gratitude for a wheelchair. Medication changes were made and I found myself able to walk again in 2022 and 2023 found me riding my bike again, for the first time in seven years. I now ride extensively. I returned to work in 2024. I’ve lost much of the excess weight I’d gained. I still cope with much, but it is so much better. I am eternally grateful for my health. I am also grateful for the wonderful authors whose works I get to listen to while riding!!

    The years since covid have been rough for my daughter – she is high risk for covid (and flu) and between medical issues, the advice to wait until she started school to get her tested for ADHD (because with parks and sensory gyms and art classes and hiking and so forth we were supporting her so well and all of that went awau with covid and not all of it still existed by the time kids had a vaccine), and the worldnfoibg crazy. She struggled and I had no time.

    But she a year ago we got the right diagnosis for the “other” that was not just ADHD, I changed my parenting to fit and she is doing so much better.

    So I have time to read.

    (But really I am thankful that we figured out how better to help her and I get to watch her do so much better.)

I am so blessed to have a great inherited family, and I am grateful for crepes, as we also will be making spinach and mushroom crepes for an appetizer, and Crepes Suzette for dessert – who’s hungry now?

  1869. I am thankful for my children. We lost my husband of almost 30 years to cancer a few years ago and recovering from that loss has been very hard. My kids have been so supportive- I love them more than anything.

    I am thankful for people who still fight for justice and human rights.
    I am thankful for the recipe for rum cake with raisins that I have found. It will be a treat for holidays!

    My cats. Simon and Moonpie. They are good boys who never sit on my head when I’m asleep — they just sit on my chest and stare at me from six inches away until I wake up. And when they kill a mouse, they do it very neatly and leave it in plain sight to make disposing of it easy. This is very thoughtful of them!

I know it has generally been a scary time for many people, but in my case I had just decided to explore placing my mother Alison in Hospice when my brother let me know that he might have a cancer diagnosis. He suffered multiple aneurysms subsequent to a routine biopsy in early March and never regained consciousness. My mother had a great summer (she had advanced dementia and we never told her he had passed away) and passed away herself in September. Needless to say, the holidays are quite freighted this year. I am so grateful to have survived Thanksgiving, to have run a Turkey Trot with my sons, to have my oldest home from college and reconnecting with his very special high school XC and track teammates, and to have spent most of this particular day outside having fun and being silly. I am grateful that beauty and joy can coexist in the same time and space as grief and sorrow, and that I am somehow able to experience profound gratitude even while desperately mourning my parents and brothers.

  1946. I am thankful for my family. Everyone, including me, is in a good place right now. And I want to acknowledge that for me and the universe. (Wow. That sounded way too woo-woo for me.)

  1983. I’m grateful to a local church, who, for the 4th year in a row, donated their leftover pumpkin patch to the wildlife on our 20 acres in Mississippi. (For decades they used to pay for a dumpster and hauled to the dump.)
    The pile of pumpkins they deliver (after Halloween is over) are food for whitetailed deer, raccoons, chipmunks, birds and mice. Uneaten seeds will sprout next year creating more food for the lives that live here with us. There is no “Planet B”.

  1986. I am so thankful for my Mom and Dad. They’re 82 and 84, and seeing them always brightens my day. I live an hour away and spending an afternoon with them is something I will always cherish.

Polly was a week old feral kitten with a damaged eye that my vets office asked me to foster (obviously I am a foster fail, they knew I would be). I’m handicapped with limited mobility and my favorite thing to do is read with my two wild babies snuggled up purring on my lap, just like they are now. I’m so thankful I was able to win their love, they’re a true blessing to an old formerly lonely woman. P.S. I now have a solid black male feral I’m feeding that I hope to add to the family someday. Cross your fingers for me.

    I am so thankful for my family and friends, and for my broken arm healing so well.

  2017. I’m thankful for my family. No matter what boulders like has thrown at any of us, family steps up and breaks the boulder or takes part of the hit with us so it’s not as bad. Plus we’re all bat crap crazy, so there’s always fun, food, and sarcasm.

After my treatment was complete and things looked good my Dr told me she had been worried because I couldn’t have full dose treatment. It’s been 5 years now and everything looks good.

  2113. Backstory in 2020 my sister in law passed away. My brother had raised my nephew (her son) from a previous relationship since he was about 1. He was always my brother’s son and my nephew no step. When she passed he was 6 and her mom took custody, it was ugly, ( not in nephew’s best interest) done out of spite and hurt.This year finally she was able to move past her own hurt and anger and gave my brother full guardianship. She is still a part of his life as my brother would never keep her from him. I am so very grateful that my brother has this little boy whom we all have loved for so very long and has always been ours

  2431. I am thankful for my kids. My son, William, is autistic and finished/tested out of his speech therapy and my daughter, Elizabeth, is a straight A student. Both are good kids and I am thankful every day.

  2433. I am thankful I have shelter, food, a wonderful husband and a reliable vehicle. I am thiankful we have enough money to buy food and pay the bills. I am thankful for the friends and family that are still on this Earth. I am thankful for being in bascially good health. There are so many things that can go wrong; I am thankful for all of the tings that have gone right.

  2435. Recently moved to NYC, and I’ve been so thankful for public transportation and being able to read as I get places. So much nicer than driving everywhere.

  2446. I am thankful for my dog, Roscoe. Roscoe is sixteen and my soul dog. Everyday with him is a blessing and I’m doing my best to stay in the present and enjoy my time with him. He has made my life better in so many different ways. Provided me with safety both physically and mentally. We have traveled fearlessly together – well, maybe not fearlessly BUT he gave me the courage to go forth and wander without another human. He’s provided endless love and laughter. In short – he’s awesome and I love that I was lucky enough to adopt him when he was a wee puppy. He’s saved me in so many different ways.

  2448. I got my dream job this year. I’m so thankful for new beginnings, accompanied by snuggles from my old and very beloved cats.

  2449. I am thankful for growth, continued learning and understanding. Although I consider myself pretty successful my parents have labelled me a black sheep in certain circles due to not following their script of what they planned for my life. I was hurt for a long while but by curating a circle of friends and found family, my parents rhetoric doesn’t hurt me anymore. My found family also includes my amazing partner, with whom together we have formed strong but unusual (to most but not all) life partnership.

Some of us were born to the same parents, some of us chose to marry, some of us chose to declare ourselves family or accept the invitation to become family. Each of us chooses to be part of my family. I am in constant awe of what we’ve created together. Your stories – every one of them so far – pays tribute to families like mine. I am thankful that you work so hard to create them.

  2451. Better late than never?😊

    This year, as I look around and see so many poor souls suffering and barely able to make ends meet, and/or not able to be with their loved ones, I am especially thankful for everything I’ve been taking for granted: food, clothing, a roof over my head, and especially being able to hug my husband and daughter.

    I’m also very thankful for everyone that I see pitching in and helping those who are hurting right now. When I recently went to donate at local food drives, it gave me great hope to see so many people of all colors and ages helping out. I want to believe that most people are good, and that maybe this will make a difference? I sure hope so…

  2458. I’m thankful for the 4th child we will be meeting in January, after 2 years of trying and miscarriages. It’s made the holidays so exciting for the kids, because it’s become more real to them the farther I’ve gotten in my pregnancy. They’ve even picked out Christmas presents to wrap and open “for the baby”, even though he won’t be here until a month later. Sweet babies.

  2459. I am thankful to be able to actually enjoy being in my house. It has been one very expensive thing after another, but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! I finally feel I can breath again and appreciate all that I have accomplished with it. Now I can sit back and relax… for a little while anyway!

  2460. I am thankful to have woken up this morning and having been given the gift of one more day. Yes, I know anyone reading this was given the same gift, but I’m thankful all the same. I might not get this gift tomorrow, so I’m going to make today count.

    I’m going to tell my family I love and am so proud of them. I’m going to make listening a priority. Kindness my watchword. Community my kin. I’m going to take care of myself because when I go to bed tonight I know I will not have changed the world, but I will have tried to show how thankful I have been for the gift of one more day.

Of course I’m thankful for all the good things in life like having a job, a nice home, a car that work, family, etc., but right now I’m extra thankful that Aldi has my favorite chocolate creations which is like a truffle coated in cocoa powder and the delight my taste buds have as it melts in my mouth is amazing.
