This Kingdom Will Giveaway Us

Blog, Give away, Maggie POST A COMMENT February 20, 2026 by Moderator R

It’s Giveaway Friday, squeee!

House Andrews have witnessed the Horde’s long-suffering battle with our most relentless adversaries, W*iting and P*tience.

To fortify morale, they are gifting This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me: 1 hardcover copy will go to a lucky US winner and 2 PDF ARCs to international winners.

To Enter:

Comment below and let us know:

  1. which country you’re from
  2. what your name would be, if, like Maggie, you would find yourself transported into a book (any book, by any author).

You can use your own name, make one up, or go full fantasy-protagonist and keysmash a lot of “y” and “z” into the usual unpronounceable creations. Have fun, Horde!

Giveaway Admin

This is a blog-only giveaway, only answers in blog comments count.

Winners will be chosen next Friday, February 27th 2026, with the aid of a random number generator.

The international winners will have to sign an NDA before receiving their PDF copies. This is not personal, but standard publishing practice to ensure the file will remain private with the winner. We appreciate your understanding.

For readers who are receiving this post in their newsletter email and don’t know how to get to the blog to make a valid entry comment, you can click here.

Comments are paginated, so the BDH chalance doesn’t break the blog (again lol). If you don’t see your entry, it means it’s on a previous page. Please do not resubmit, it is one entry per person.

Happy weekend and good luck!

Signed: Moderataria Rhae’zalyndrix, First of Her Name,

The Untouched by Sun, Lady of the Soggy Isles

I would probably pick Kasta as my name. It was the name of one of my dnd characters in a campaign I use to play. Kasta is high valyrian (from GoT) and means green or blue. I chose it because of my character’s sparkling blue eyes.

On a side note, now in a different campaign, I play a character named Catalina. She is an aasimar that can sprout spectral wings and is all about protecting her loved ones.

My name is Muna, but legally spelled Mona in my parents efforts to help me fit in. I feel like I’ve fought my whole life to have my name respected with at least a proper pronunciation (its four letters, I promise its not hard 😭), but I’ve been called everything from Monica, Luna, to Sara (how???). I had a boss once say that they’ll pronounce my name Mona, as spelled on my license, and if I didn’t like it I could go get it legally changed. I don’t think I could give up my name at this point hahaha

When I was set to go to school, my mom had to explain that people would call me Michelle and that I wouldn’t be in trouble so I understand that’s my in trouble name. So surely not Michelle…..
I didn’t pick to spell my name as Micki but once in a great while I find a Micki that even spells it right. So I’m going with that unless someone needs to shout, “Hey Micki” cause its not fine to blow your mind.

  295. Antoniya says

    February 20, 2026 at 10:45 am

I’m from Bulgaria. My real name is Antoniya –– and I’ve always been called Antoniya. No pet name, no nick name, nothing. Every single Antoniya I’ve ever met was called Tony (it’s a gender-neutral name in our country) or Niya, or something… Not me.

However I think of myself as Aya. When I was a kid I read a short story where that name was used. And I loved it! I don’t remember the story. I think it was about a horse but I’m not sure. That name though <3

    According to wikipedia Aya means:
    – sword is Old German
    – design, colorful or beautiful in Japanese
    – wonderful, amazing, miracle or verse in Arabic
    – to fly swiftly or bird in Hebrew
    – goodness, music, melody in Mongolian

I think that the short story was about the times when our country was under Ottoman rule. And the name had some Turkish connections… In the Turkish mythology, Aya symbolizes the good soul. The benevolent angels that live in the sky are also called Ayas. The word comes from Ay, which means moon. And ayaçı means creative soul.

So… I would LOVE to be Aya.

I am in Canada. My name would be John the REMF, Sutler or Quartermaster Extraordinaire to the Adventurer and Mercenary Trade.

Also known as “that careful old dude who lives a quiet, comfortable life in a nice city where he has a shop that specializes in selling fancy equipment at extortionate prices to all the eager and reckless young Adventurers before they rush out to die.”

In most fantasy or historical settings, the swordsmiths, armourers, sutlers, chandlers and similar purveyors of goods to the adventurer or mercenary trade generally don’t have a lot of repeat clientele. But there is a neverending supply of fresh young idiots to outfit for their own one-way trips to … uhm … Fame and Riches and Glory.

I’m from the USA. And because I read a lot of fantasy books, have what I’m told is a large imagination, but not very creative on my own (I can follow an advanced knitting pattern, shape it as needed, but cannot write one!) I need help in the process. And with this I feel like I was given a challenge, so I got help. All of that to say, this is what I would be called (but don’t credit me on it as I had help, but I still like it)!

Zyraeth Moonsunder, Oathbound Mother of the Hollow Radiance, Keeper of the Severed Light

And because I had help, there is also a prophecy!

The Prophecy of the Hollow Radiance

When the moon is cleft and the sky remembers its wound,
The Mother shall rise from oath and shadow.
She will gather the light that was cast out,
And bind it not with mercy — but with will.

    Nine shall kneel.
    One shall break.
And in the silence between heartbeats,
Her Radiance shall devour the dawn.

    Hello from Canada,

I am also on a D&D campaign. I am a water troll who was found in a forest when young and raised by Druids (so I mistakenly think I am a wood troll). The druids named me Mangy (I think it is Mang gee) Dochas.

Life is hard for the evil born, raised by the good and inhabiting the rank of chaotic neutral but with help from my trusty, turkey buzzard familiar named Ella and her partner Sam, I will stumble on until I find my stank, still water haven.

    February 20, 2026 at 11:49 am

    Bonjour from France!

I made a pact when I was 14 with my best friend that, if we were transported into another world, we should use the name of this one girl we didn’t like, “Alizée”. The idea was that it’d be easier to find each other in the fantasy world of we shared the same fake name, and also that if we got arrested or anything, we wouldn’t set into trouble, Alizée would.

(We also decided to use her last name, which I will not share for privacy reasons)
