  17. In this dystopian novel, set in the United States, I am Kathy. Were I suddenly transported like Maggie, I would probably still be Kathy.

    But maybe I could become Polly Stichum, Guardian of Needleworkers and Evergreen Ferns.

    I came across a book that looks like it ripped off the cover of Diamond Fire. The book is Bone Witch by D. N. Hoxa. It’s the covers on audible. Just thought I should let someone know.

    I’d go by Dim. My real name is rough enough for folks to pronounce in my own world, so I’d trend towards something dumb and easy. Dim also means “egg” in my mother tongue.

    …I usually go with Cordelia when naming my character in video games, after Mile’s mother in Lois McMaster Bujold’s Vorkosigan Saga (and who young me wanted to be when I grew up).

    But in this case, I’ll go with my all-time favorite character name, courtesy of Barbara Hambly’s Darwath series: the Icefalcon.
    This name has it all – brevity, mystery, a touch of menace, and a definite article that is always part of the name, but only capitalized when placed at the beginning of a sentence. Sigh…

  31. Germany – I choose Benedictus as my name and it would be my mission to protect us nice living creatures from all these curses that are uttered by evil spirits all the time, like “be pat*ent” or “please w*it”

  35. Hi! I’m Erika from the USA! So, one of my all time favorite books is “In Other Lands” by Sarah Rees Brennan. It’s fantasy with lots of humor. Well, if I were transferred into that story, I’d like to join the elves in the book, who have vey unusual—slightly flowery—but warlike names, such as Serene-Heart-in-the-Chaos-of-Battle (which as you can tell, she is pretty badass!). If I got transported inside the book, my elven name would be something like:

    Wonders-Why-You-Are-Yelling

    Or maybe…

    Patient-Until-You-Make-It-Worse

    Or most likely…

    Thinks-This-Meeting-Could-Have-Been-Better-As-A-Note

    Or maybe just…

    Sits-On-The-Ground-Staring-At-The-Sky

  74. I am from the USA and my fantasy name would be Amandia. Because I would still recognize it as my name but it sounds cooler.

    Recently, five-year-olds that I read to at a local kindergarten pretended to forget my name (after meeting with me every week since September.) I proudly told them my ‘real’ name: Her Royal Middleness, Countess Gertrude Von Flugelhorn The Twenty Third And A Half Of Olde Jersey.

    I answer to this name anytime I am transported into a book. I also suspect I will now be answering to this name anytime I read to these littles in the foreseeable future.
